Can you solve this riddle.

The Light Bulb

You are in a house. There are 3 light switches. Inside of a closed room (that you CAN NOT see) there is a light bulb that is turned on by one of the switches. If you can only go inside the room one time how can you tell which switch turns on the light?

Well, can you?

:scra oh right, i thought that was a really dumb riddle, but do you mean that the light switches are in a SEPARATE room to the light bulb and you can't see through the rooms. You needed to make that clearer, cuz my answer there ^ makes me look a bit stupid :x :scra

I would just say click each one until you see some light coming from under the door. when you see it, then open the door.

Or i would say, click on 2 of the switches and if you go in the room and the light is off, that means its the switch you didnt use is the one.
-but then if the light is on, then its one of the 2 you already used.

I dont know  At least i tried

The answer to the riddle is:

You turn 1 switch on for ten min. Then you turn that one off and turn on the second one and go inside the room. If the light is off but the bulb is HOT it's the first switch. If the light is on it's the second switch. And if the light is off and the bulb is cold it's ther third switch.

 I was doing some serious math to solve this. Mathematicaly it is impossible to solve.
You have basically 2 situation.
A. All switch turn on or off. No information here.
B. One on or off.
Now if you are lucky and the ligth in the room corresponds to the one turned on or off you can tell, otherwise not.
Your solution proves that creativety is much more important that exact science. :)

oh, that's clever! i was thinking about getting some tools and unscrewing the switch sockets and chiselling through the wall and following the wires to the lightbulb, but your way is much simpler.

These are the types of questions we give to new recruits that try to join my firm. I'll post a couple of other questions when I have some time.

do you ask them those riddles to decide whether or not to give them a job? i think that is a good idea, all the places i've been to work at, they make you do poxy role-plays and learn stuff about another person like what colour their toothbrush is. worth it! Or they make you do that crap like, what is your favourite type of bird? what is your favourite type of water? and your answers 'supposedly' say something about the type of person you are.
